Un grupo de pescadores que trataba de huir de la zona de guerra de Sri Lanka, llegó hace pocos días a la costa india tras un periplo de 1.300 kilómetros y 9 días. Durante ese tiempo, la pequeña embarcación en la que viajaban navegó a la deriva y de los 21 tripulantes, sólo 10 fueron rescatados con vida.
Una de las supervivientes, Mary Joseph Beny, relató a las autoridades del hospital de Uppada, en la región india de Andra Pradesh, cómo sus familiares y compañeros de viaje fueron muriendo de hambre, sed e insolación. "Primero murieron los niños, luego los ancianos; no teníamos otra opción que arrojar los cadáveres por la borda para evitar enfermedades", dijo.

Manchester United took a step closer to retaining the Premier League title with a comfortable victory at relegation-threatened Middlesbrough.

Fulham fought to stay in the game and Nevland showed fine technique to volley narrowly over, but Chelsea's dominance increased as the game wore on.

Fabregas drove in his first after great build-up play but Boro appealed for offside, claiming Nicklas Bendtner had blocked goalkeeper Brad Jones' view.

CHELSEA 0 - 0 EVERTON
Chelsea produced a far from convincing display at Stamford Bridge as they were held to a goalless draw by Everton that all but ends their title challenge.The hosts enjoyed all the possession, but Everton had the better chances.
Jo twice fluffed when through on goal, while Leighton Baines was denied a penalty when he was fouled by Alex.
At the other end Didier Drogba shot onto the bar, but otherwise the hosts were pretty toothless and they now lie six points behind Manchester United.
The league leaders also have a game in hand over Guus Hiddink's side, meaning the Blues' hopes of silverware this season must surely now rest on the Champions League and FA Cup.
Their success in the latter, of course, will come down to their final against Everton - and the stalemate at Stamford Bridge will only fuel the Toffees' belief that they can compete with Chelsea on 30 May.
There was some suspicion before kick-off that it would be a good time to play Everton, following the Toffees' FA Cup semi-final exploits at the weekend and with qualification to next season's Europa League all but guaranteed.
However, for all their possession, it was Chelsea rather than the visitors who appeared to lack verve and spark in the attacking third.

MONTE CARLO: Nadal & Federer win clay openers
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer opened their clay-court seasons with comfortable second-round victories at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000.Federer, without a title since October, had originally decided to skip the famous event but accepted a late wildcard as he looks for some form.
And the world number two came through 6-4 6-4 against Seppi to reach round three of the Masters 1000 tournament.
Nadal had far too much for Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela, winning 6-2 6-3.
The Spaniard, going for his fifth straight title in Monte Carlo, stormed 4-0 ahead with some blistering play before Chela recovered to 4-2 and a 0-40 lead.
Nadal regained his focus to save all three break points and powered through the set before letting another early lead slip in the second.
After dropping two games from 3-0, the world number one again gathered himself to grab one more decisive break and see out the match.
Nadal was critical of his performance following his victory and admitted he would have to improve in certain areas to win his fifth straight title in Monte Carlo.
"I had some tough moments during the match," Nadal said.
"I played some games well, I had some terrible games... (I was) up and down during all the match.
"I have to improve my concentration in the next match. That's the important thing."

Barcelona reached the Champions League semi-finals after drawing their last eight second leg with Bayern Munich to seal a comprehensive aggregate victory.Facing a 4-0 first-leg deficit, Bayern made a strong start with Luca Toni and Franck Ribery going close early on.
Ribery rounded Victor Valdes to put the hosts ahead after half-time but they did little to extend their lead.

Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool (agg 7-5) ( BBC REPORT)
Chelsea survived a huge scare before drawing one of the most entertaining Champions League games of recent times to seal a 7-5 aggregate win over Liverpool and book a semi-final against Barcelona.Guus Hiddink's team led 3-1 after the first leg at Anfield but Fabio Aurelio's free-kick after an awful misjudgement from Petr Cech and Xabi Alonso's penalty put Liverpool in control at the break.
Jose Reina fumbled Didier Drogba's deft touch into his own net and Alex's thunderbolt free-kick levelled the scores on the night with two goals in six dramatic second-half minutes.
The inspirational Frank Lampard put the Blues 3-2 ahead, slotting home Drogba's intelligent cross.
The tie looked finished but Liverpool were not done yet and Lucas Leiva's deflected strike was quickly followed by Dirk Kuyt's near-post header.
It was 4-3 to Liverpool with seven minutes of normal time remaining and Stamford Bridge was stunned, while the Reds required just one more goal to complete a sensational victory on away goals.
But Lampard converted Nicolas Anelka's pass to level at 4-4 in the final dramatic action of a truly memorable game of football.
Liverpool were without their skipper Steven Gerrard because of an injury but came close to pulling off a memorable victory without their inspirational leader.
Liverpool gave the hosts an early warning when a delightful touch from Yossi Benayoun after 13 minutes created a clear opening for Fernando Torres, who failed to hit the target with his left-foot strike.
It was a poor miss and Liverpool's slim hopes were almost completely extinguished a minute later but Lampard narrowly missed the target with a free-kick.
Then came the moment that embarrassed Cech and handed Liverpool a lifeline, as Aurelio smashed his free-kick into the bottom corner.
Chelsea had only bothered to put one man in the wall and Cech was so focused on dealing with a floated ball into the congested area that he neglected the possibility of a low shot at goal.
Even so, it was a terrible error as the Czech keeper was caught completely out of position and scrambled across goal in vain.
Buoyed by their goal, Liverpool suddenly found an incisiveness and rhythm to their play, while Chelsea, with suspended skipper John Terry watching from the stands, looked uncharacteristically brittle.
Terry will be back for the semi-final first leg tie against 2006 champions Barcelona at the Nou Camp in two weeks, but left-back Ashley Cole will be absent after picking up a yellow card for a foul on Alvaro Arbeloa.
The Blues defensive unit struggled to cope with the passing and movement of an attacking line that had struggled so manifestly at Anfield eight days earlier.
And the Reds doubled their lead through Alonso's unstoppable penalty after the Spaniard had been fouled by Chelsea's first-leg hero Branislav Ivanovic.
Chelsea boss Hiddink withdrew Salomon Kalou and brought on Anelka after 35 minutes.
And his bold decision was vindicated when the Frenchman's low cross from the right shortly after the restart was deflected by Drogba past Liverpool keeper Reina, who could only parry the ball into his own net.
Drogba was inches away with a free-kick as Chelsea found the attacking menace that had almost completely eluded them in the first-half and it came as no huge surprise when they did draw level, Alex drilling home his long-range free-kick.
Liverpool now needed to score twice more but Michael Ballack should have put the result beyond doubt after Drogba broke down the right and picked out the unmarked German with a precise low cross. Ballack, however, shot tamely and Reina dived to his left to save.
Torres, an increasingly marginal figure, went close from distance but it was Chelsea who were in control now and Lampard put his team ahead with a close-range finish from Drogba's cross.
The tie seemed to be dead and buried before Lucas' deflected strike after 81 minutes was quickly followed by Kuyt's bullet header from substitute Albert Riera's cross.
Suddenly it was only the visiting supporters who could be heard but the final goal of a pulsating match fell to Lampard, whose strike went in off both posts.

MONTECARLO MASTERS: Murray opens clay season with win
British number one Andy Murray began his clay-court season with a fine win over Romanian Victor Hanescu in round two of the Monte Carlo Masters.
The 21-year-old Scot, who had a bye in the first round as the fourth seed, overcame a tentative start to win 6-3 6-2 in one hour 25 minutes.
Murray faces Croatia's Marin Cilic or Italian Fabio Fognini in round three.

Coventry 0-0 Charlton
Charlton's Championship status was left hanging by a thread after they could only secure a dogged goalless draw against Coventry at the Ricoh Arena.Decent results for drop rivals Norwich and Nottingham Forest mean the Addicks are 12 points off safety with four games left and a dire goal difference.
But it was a brave display, with Jonjo Shelvey seeing a 'goal' disallowed and Nick Bailey firing against the post.
Coventry's best chance fell to Ashley Cain, but he shot wide late on.
Coventry City boss Chris Coleman: "We have been in an FA Cup quarter-final and if we finish in the top half that will be a good season after what happened last year when it went to the last day of the season.

MANCHESTER CITY must be braver - IRELAND (BBC NOTES)
Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland said some of his team-mates were not "brave" enough in Thursday's Uefa Cup first-leg defeat in Hamburg.The Premier League side lost 3-1 after Ireland had put them ahead early on.
"We've got more quality, but at home we need to show it and be braver," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"I think at times tonight some people were hiding and when we had our backs against the wall some people were not brave enough to come out and fight."
City were beaten despite having taken a first-minute lead and face an uphill task in the second leg on 16 April.
But boss Mark Hughes says his side are still capable of reaching the Uefa Cup semi-finals.
"It will be difficult to claw back but we are not out of it," Hughes insisted.
"We have shown time and again we can score goals at Eastlands. We have players capable of causing Hamburg problems, as we showed."
Ireland gave City a dream start by scoring after 35 seconds but the joint leaders of the Bundesliga dominated after that and took control with goals from Joris Mathijsen, Piotr Trochowski and Jose Pablo Guerrero.
"We are still in this tie and we are not going to concede it now," added Hughes. "We have got to be positive.
"We are fully committed to the second leg and will give it a real go."
City had keeper Shay Given to thank for not conceding more goals after he made a string of crucial saves.
"He is an outstanding goalkeeper, who is there to make crucial saves," said Hughes.
"When you are up against a quality side like Hamburg, who are at home, they will have chances.
"We have to defend them and Shay to save them but that situation happens in every game."
Hughes brought Benjani Mwaruwari on as a late substitute but suffered a recurrence of a ruptured thigh muscle.
City had keeper Shay Given to thank for not conceding more goals after he made a string of crucial saves.

En respuesta en el pleno del Senado a una pregunta del parlamentario popular Juan Van Halen sobre el descenso de espectadores y recaudación de las películas nacionales en 2008, Molina dijo que el cine español no vive de las subvenciones, "pero no podría vivir sin el respaldo de la Administración".
Aseguró que el Fondo de Ayuda a la Cinematografía tiene una dotación anual de 88 millones de euros, pero es una cantidad alejada de los 300 millones que dedica Francia a su industria, de los 150 de Alemnia o los 100 de Gran Bretaña. Aun así, recordó que el cine español es el segundo más fuerte de Europa en volumen de negocio, sólo precedido por el galo.

Aquel encuentro descarriló cuando los productores y directores invitados, tradicionalmente afines al Gobierno, reprocharon al ministro que tras tres años y medio de gestación la Ley de Cine no se pueda aplicar por falta de publicación de la orden ministerial que contemple su desarrollo. Molina se tomó bastante mal los reproches, según los asistentes.

Brasil goleó 3-0 a Perú por las eliminatorias al Mundial-2010 OTRA VEZ Y SIN ESFUERZO
PORTO ALEGRE, Brasil (AFP) — Brasil cumplió su deber al golear por 3-0 a Perú en Porto Alegre (sur), por la duodécima fecha de las eliminatorias sudamericanas al Mundial de Sudáfrica-2010, con lo cual pasó al segundo lugar de la tabla a tres puntos del líder Paraguay.
Los goles auriverdes fueron anotados por el 'Fabuloso' Luis Fabiano, a los 18 -penal- y 27 minutos, y Felipe Melo (63).
El triunfo en el estadio Beira Rio ante unos 30.000 espectadores dejó a Brasil con 21 puntos, uno encima del tercero, Chile (20), y apenas tres debajo del líder Paraguay. Perú sigue en el sótano con solo 7 unidades y apenas una victoria en 12 juegos.

England midfielder Frank Lampard says manager Fabio Capello has not shut the door on Newcastle striker Michael Owen.Owen is yet to play under Capello and was recently referred to as England's "history" by the Italian.
But Lampard says the 29-year-old, who has scored 40 goals in 89 England caps, should not give up hope of a recall.
"Michael Owen is one of the best strikers ever to play for England and I am sure if he is fit and playing well, he will be in the team," said Lampard.
"His goalscoring record is unbelievable, but he has been injured for a long time and Fabio does not feel he is ready to play," added the Chelsea man.
Lampard insisted there is nothing personal between Owen and Capello and that his exclusion is just down to fitness and form.
"Capello has shown he is a fair manager and has no personal agendas, he just wants to win games," said Lampard.
"The situation would be the same if I was injured or if Wayne Rooney is injured. If you are fit and playing well you will be in."
Capello opted to call up Darren Bent after Carlton Cole was ruled out of the game against Ukraine on Wednesday because of a thigh injury.
Emile Heskey will also miss the World Cup qualifier after picking up a hamstring injury in the early stages of the friendly win over Slovakia at the weekend.
But Capello has ruled out bringing in Owen, who has only just returned to action for his club Newcastle after an ankle ligament problem.
"Capello has shown he is a fair manager and has no personal agendas, he just wants to win games," said Lampard.
"The situation would be the same if I was injured or if Wayne Rooney is injured. If you are fit and playing well you will be in."
Capello opted to call up Darren Bent after Carlton Cole was ruled out of the game against Ukraine on Wednesday because of a thigh injury.

Tras venderse 360.000 boletos por adelantado a principios de semana, se ofrecieron casi 500.000 entradas más el viernes, dijeron los organizadores. Cientos de personas esperaron en el lugar con la esperanza de adquirirlas.
Recorrí 241 kilómetros (150 millas) sólo para esto, dijo Lee Middleton, un trabajador de la construcción de 34 años de Liverpool, en el noroeste de Inglaterra. Hemos hecho algunos amigos muy interesantes mientras esperábamos en fila... La gente cantaba sus canciones (de Jackson) y bailaba.

YA VAN 115 PLATOS EN CARRERA POR LAS 7 MARAVILLAS GASTRONOMICAS DEL PERU
Ricardo Ráez, impulsor de esta campaña, indicó que hasta la fecha existen 115 platos en carrera, siendo el cebiche el plato que lidera dicha lista. A este le siguen el ají de gallina, el lomo saltado, la causa, la papa a la huancaína, el anticucho, el chupe de camarones, el pollo a la brasa, el arroz con pollo, el rocoto relleno, el arroz con pato, la pachamanca, el cabrito a la norteña y la carapulca. Según declaró Raez, la iniciativa se encuentra ya en marcha desde diciembre del año pasado y con ella busca convertir a las 7 maravillas en una marca referente para promover el turismo gastronómico. De esta manera, convocó a las autoridades regionales a alentar a la población a votar por sus respectivos platos locales.
Por su parte, la titular del Mincetur, saludó esta inicitaiva y destacó su importancia por su efecto multiplicador en el auge económico regional y nacional, al favorecer el desarrollo de actividades económicas como la agricultura y la pesca en cuanto a los insumos para preparar los platos; así como la generación de franquicias de restaurantes tanto en el país como en el extranjero.
La inscripción de nuevos candidatos estará abierta hasta el 30 de marzo, y las votaciones continuarán hasta el 15 de mayo, fecha en la que serán anunciados los 21 finalistas que pasarán a la última etapa de la competencia. El concurso culminará el 27 de julio, y ese día se anunciarán las 7 maravillas gastronómicas del Perú.
